Fiber Friday - Diakeito Diamusee

Something besides sock yarn! This yarn is another souvenir from my recent trip. This yarn is Diakeito Diamusee Fine. The yarn is from Japan and is 100% wool. Each skein is 40g / 239 yards. The color is listed as # 120 and is supposed to be self striping. I have four skeins to play with.

When I originally bought the yarn I thought I would be using it to make a scarf; but since I've gotten the yarn home, I've come across another idea. Now I am considering using two skeins to make the Forest Canopy Shoulder Shawl by Susan Lawrence. It is a pretty little shoulder shawl that is supposed to be an easy pattern to follow. It's actually the stitch pattern that I like.

But I kind of think I might not really use a triangular shawl very much. I think I'd prefer a rectangular shawl in use. I have several shawls and they are all rectangles. I've never had a triangle shaped shawl. When I actually think it through, I can't see what I'd want one either.

Who needs something pointing down to their behind? Trust me, you'd see mine without directional signs. If the point is actually long enough, I think I'd end up sitting on it most of the time. I think something rectangular in nature would be much more compatible with my nature.

Maybe I'm thinking about this all wrong. Maybe triangle shawls are really meant just to be pretty decorative item and not to be curled up with. Or maybe the intended wearer is just more elegant than me and doesn't curl up in a fluffy chair. Maybe it is for the actual knitting process that these shawls are created. Do you have a triangle shaped shawl? Do you wear the triangle shaw?

Now, in response to the comments on my dream swatch - I will be taking a picture of me wearing it and post it to the blog. I'll have to get out my tripod and set it up to take the picture. I've also been knitting on my chevron scarf during the week. Hopefully I'll have something to post soon.

Lovely yarn! Honestly a triangle shawl always kind of screamed "old lady" to me. But maybe because the last time I wore a triangle shawl was when I was portraying an old lady in my 2nd grade Christmas play ;-)

LOL at the "directional sign" idea!! Hmmm ... could you use all 4 skeins and reverse the pattern once you got to the middle, thus creating a rectangular shawl that's twice as big?? Such gorgeous yarn!!

I have a half-circular shawl in and I find it to be a happy medium between the two. It doesn't bunch up around your neck like rectangular shawls tend to do but it also doesn't do the point down to the butt, old lady thing either. Have you looked at EZ's Pi shawl?

Gorgeous yarn. I think it will be lovely no matter what you use it for. I have one triangle shawl, and wear it sort of offset around my shoulders. Hard to explain, but I make sure the point doesn't point to the point I don't want to point out. lol. Have a great weekend.

That yarn is lovely!!!

I have one Triangle shawl, my FBS, but I'm finding myself yearning for rectangles too. It seems like they would be more wearable (for me). But, I do wear my FBS on occasion - with a pseudo-effortless off kilter effect - the point usually ends up almost over a shoulder or an arm. I think I would wear it more with a simple & elegant clip to keep it in place but I have yet to find the perfect one. I don't like messing with it, and it needs to be messed with unless I am to sit stock still all day.

To answer your question, no I don't have a shawl. There are some really pretty ones out there, I could just never see myself wearing one. That said, I like the rectangle ones that people just wrap around their upper body while wearing a dress or something. I think knittywhipped knit one recently. If I had to knit a shawl, I would knit one like that.

Pretty yarn. And I'm with you on the triangular shawl - I don't think I'd wear one either.

Gorgeous yarn!! I saw Weezlana's rectangular shawl with the fir cone pattern from the Shetland triangle.

Now, I have no behind and don't want anything pointing to something I don't have LOL! So I think rectangular is going to be for me! :)

Pretty yarn. I too am drawn to rectangular shawls normally. Although, I would do a triangular if I really like the pattern. I do plan to knit the Shetland Triangle

I want it! This yarn makes my heart beat faster! ;o) I made several triangular shawls. I love knitting them, used only my last one a couple of times, the others are too precious! LOL I'll give them away. I think I'll use the smaller ones, more like a scarf than shoulder shawl. It's a pity really. I'd like to knit more of them, but really, what to do with them???

That yarn is really gorgeous! I have knit two triangular shawls, Kiri and Swallowtail. I loved them both but gave them as gifts. I agree with others though that you do sort of wind up wearing them off center, not with the point directly above your butt.

I haven't knit a shaw as yet. However, I'm with you on the triangle pointing to my .... well, let's just say the largest part of my body.

You do have a point about sitting on it too. I've never thought about that.

Since I've seen your yarn I'm really considering knitting a shaw.

Shannon, you're a bad, bad enabler.
:~)

My gosh, this yarn looks to die for! Actually, this must be the most interesting and most beautiful one that I've seen for long! Okay, as I see it, I'll just have to go to Japan doing some yarn shopping one day - yummy!

I've knit one Triangular Shawl - Noro Sursa. I drape it around & so the point goes off my shoulder. Sursa has a ruffle to it & it's knit from a heavier yarn, so that might impact why I like it. I've been tempted to knit a triangular shawl like Forest Canopy. It's supposed to be a great pattern. (Especially for those without lace knitting experience - which would be me).

Do you have any suggestions for a good rectangular shawl pattern?

That's pretty yarn. I was looking at a lot of shawl patterns over the weekend but didn't come across this one. Very nice!
