Fiber Friday - Mmmm Cashmere!

This is the most extravagant yarn I have in my stash. I really like the color, Anya's Garden and it is one of the softest things I own. I love just picking it up and holding it every once and awhile. It is 2-ply Mongolian Cashmere from Jade Sapphire. The skein is 55 grams and approximately 400 yards and I have two!

The yarn is hand wash only, but I can't imagine knitting anything with it that would require much more cleaning than that. The softness and weigh of this cashmere seems to just lend itself to being knit up into a soft delicately handled item.

The problem is I have no idea what to knit. I bought this on impulse while I was on a trip for work. I haven't knit anything with it yet because I'm waiting for the right pattern. I really want to knit something I'll use.

In the end, I'll probably try and find a rectangular shawl pattern that I can knit with 800 yards. Maybe I'll just go through a stitch dictionary and pick a pattern. Any suggestions for a pattern or a specific stitch? I'm open to ideas!

"Mmmmmm Cashmere" is right! LOVE those colors!

And yeah - I'd be walking around petting it, so I'm not much help on the pattern ideas. :)

it's gorgeous! I'd recommend looking through Victorian Lace Today, its has a lot of rectangle shawls in beautiful patterns. I love that book!

Oooh, I do love your Fiber Fridays. Cashmere is something I have yet to purchase. For a pattern, grab your Barbara Walker guide or Harmony guide, pick a lace pattern, use garter stitch for ends and edges, and away you go. It will be lovely.

Sorry, I'm so bad with recommentations. I've only knit with cashmere once and it was heavenly. I had Artyarns Cashmere 5, it was thicker. Yours got to be a rectangular shawl were you can wrap yourself into with all this soft goodness!

Sooo pretty!!!! I can only imagine how soft!

I can't quite tell the weight, but could it be heavy enough for a clapotis?! That's always my fallback for pretty yarn....you can never have enough of those :)

I second the Victorian lace. There are some lovely patterns in there.

Wonderful colors. I did a cashmere sweater once (years ago) on like zero or ones and I wore it out. When ever I felt bad I could put it on and felt better. Something to wrap up in a good idea if you have enough yarn.
