Coming Back

As my maternity leave comes to an end, I'm trying to get things together to go back to work and get things going to get Widget ready for daycare. I'm sad my time at home is coming to an end, but I have to face it so I'm prepared.

Widget is still breast feeding and resistant to bottles. So that is one thing to overcome. He also needs to get used to sleeping in a crib. He has been sleeping his swing seat. It comes off the swing base and I set it next to my side of the bed each night.

He is doing well. We had our two month check up yesterday and he got an all clear. He is now up to 12 lbs 6 ozs.

I'm hoping to get back to knitting, spinning, and blogging. I hope some of you that read this are still out there. I downloaded an application so I can post to my blog from my phone. This post is my first try. Hopefully it will work!

I haven't gotten to do any spinning done but I have started to work some knitting into my "free" time. This scarf is one of my traveling scarf projects that finally made it's was home. This group had 10 knitters and I asked each to add 4 rows of garter stitch. The scarf was knitted lengthwise and ended up being just over 100 inchs long. I had to add 4 rows and bind it off to get it finised. Not much, but it is something.

My mom however has been knitting up a storm for Widget. He has got a great selection of hats and some sweaters too. He also has a huge basket of of knitted and crocheted toys. I'm going to get some photos taken and share her work.

Widget looks great, Shannon. I'm so sad, too, that you're going back to work. Babies grow up so very, very fast . . . and the costs of caring for a baby while mom works are often so high . . . that it sometimes isn't as expensive to stay home as one would think.

Be that as it may, you're the mom, and it's your family and your choice. Make the one that's best for you, your husband, and your little Widget. :o)

Enjoy your time with them both!

I too think it's sad, that maternity leave is so short. 25 years ago in Austria, when I had my children I got one year paid maternity leave. They changed that to 3 years later!!! and for a short time to 5 years, but only for guarantied job. I don't know how it is right now. I started to work half time when both my kids started school. Anyway, you Widget is a cute little boy. He looks so happy! I wish you and your family all the best!

Sigh..it always ends too soon! The scarf looks pretty interesting, hehe I thought you had knit it all. Give yourselves time to adjust when you go back. Baby steps...literally! Hang in there and look forward to seeing what your Mom has knit up :)

I'm going to say good for you for keeping a foot in the workforce. As a woman you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'm in the damned if you do camp. ;-)
The first week back sucks, but after that it's easier. Maybe you'll get lucky--Mooch has NEVER cried when I've left him at daycare, he clicked with his caregiver that much. (Chunky was a different story).

Anyway, give that boy a cyber hug for me....so darn cute!!!

The time at home with a new baby is never long enough!

Widget looks very happy (and handsome) in that picture. I've been keeping up with the pictures you've posted to flickr and have to say that he is just the cutest little guy ever!

What a handsome little guy! So cute! I can't believe your maternity leave is almost over. It seems like you just had him! I hope the transition to daycare goes smoothly for you both.

Sorry you can't take Widget to work and breast feed him there. About being resistant to bottles: don't YOU be the one to give him the bottle. He associates you with a real nipple and real milk. He knows you're holding out on him. He knows the good stuff and he is resistant to accept the other stuff from you. Let someone else give him the bottle. So that that these new/odd tastes and textures are associated with somebody else.
I hope you can continue to nurse when not at work. It's so much more than just nutrition.

So cute! Can't wait to see you around more often, but that picture says it all: you definitely had better things to do.

I agree with mariarose about having someone else give the bottle- you have to be out of the room also.

He's CUTE. It is hard going back to work - but it gets less difficult as you and your family get used to this new stage of family life.

glad to hear things are going well with the boy. i'll say that life as a working mother is both harder and easier than i thought it would be. pumping at work for the first few months was hard, as was leaving my little man with someone else. but he also bonded with his caregiver SO MUCH, and that really helps. i figure he has more people loving him than a baby with only two caregivers, right? i won't lie though--the first six months were rough. but i agree that it's also important to keep a foot in the door in the workplace, too. it's hard to go back if you leave it for even a year. so all my rambling aside--good for you! looking forward to running into you in the lobby again. :)
