Widget is Here!

It's been a long time between posts for me. For the last month I've been adjusting to our new family addition and my new role as mom. Widget was born via c-section on January 6th. He weighed in at 9 lb 7 oz and was 22 inches long.

For the most part things have been going really well here at Geddesburg. Widget did struggle a little to gain back the weight he lost right after being born. So we spent time with a lactation consultant and made many visits to the pediatrician to make sure he didn't lose any more
weight. The lactation consultant called him a lazy eater - which is difficult to believe knowing his parents. But we followed her advice and by the time he was three weeks old, all the weight lost had been regained.

Before Widget was born I imagined using my maternity leave with a dual purpose and getting a lot done around the house. I have several small home projects I would like to complete before going back to work, not to mention all the knitting and spinning I'd like to catch up with. Although now I can that is not what is going to happen. I've already been home close to a month and I'm just getting around to my first blog post. But we have feedings every two to three hours and he doesn't like to be put down to sleep. I know I have a lot to learn. Hopefully I'll get the hang of this mommy thing and be able to multi-task a little bit better.

I've have actually knit a baby hat since we've been home and I started a shawl the other day, anticipate it won't be a quick project. I'm hoping to get back to blogging more too, but this will have to be all for now, Widget is starting to wake up.

Congratulations Shannon!! He is just too cute!!! I hear the first few months can be hard, but enjoy as much as you can! He'll be bigger before you know!

Oh, and I'm fairly certain, even just a quick adorable baby photo counts as a blog post. That should make it easy to keep blogging!!

Ha ha! He's so cute!!! I love that spikey hair in the 2nd picture! Congratulations!!! (Did you give him a Geddesburg name? You odn't have to spill his real name on here--or is that just for the four legged kids?)

Congratulations! He is beautiful! I find new mothers, as a whole, put way too many expectations on themselves. You'll get through all these big adjustments in your life - take care of the important things and the rest will come with time. Enjoy this time with "widget"...it will be gone too soon

so awesome! i am glad you are taking the time to just hang with and enjoy that little man of yours. believe me, the time passes too quickly for words, so savor this time at home with him!!! he's beautiful, and i am so glad to hear you are doing well. i did the same thing, by the way--saved up some things to do when i was home on maternity leave, as well as a but shawl i wanted to knit. and well--as you are finding out, that stuff can just wait. that baby is way more important than how organized your closet is! :-)

congratulations again, and welcome back!

Shannon, he looks great! (I've been so out of it, sorry for not commenting sooner. :o)

Soak in every second you possibly can with him . . . children are so precious, and the time you have with him is so incredibly short. Just under two decades of your entire life will be spent mostly on him. Love him, learn about him (he's a complete person, with every emotion and instinct you have . . . just with a whole lot less understanding of our world), and keep him close to you. Here's a fairly random question, though . . . do you work in a baby-friendly place?
