Fiber Friday - Handspun Edition

This is my fourth attempt at spinning on the new wheel. It's great to be able to use my own yarn for pictures on Fiber Friday. I hope you are all okay with seeing my hand spun instead of a commercial yarn.

This yarn started out as South African wool top from FatCatKnits. I liked spinning this up. The result is a nice soft feeling yarn that I think you could wear next to your skin. I started out with about 4 ounces of fiber and ended up spinning about 122 yards. Everything is still coming out relatively uneven. I think I just need to slow down for a while. I've actually been spinning very fast because I get excited when I sit \down at the wheel. I think I need to relax more and take my time.

I do think some of what I have spun up will make some nice projects; the hard part will be finding small projects to knit with all these smallish amounts of yarn. I'm thinking hats, mittens, or fingerless gloves would work with what I've spun up to this point. I've been spinning more than knitting since Christmas and I'm going to have to start knitting with my new yarn soon.

I love it! I think it's just fine. I hear so many spinners complain about not being able to get a heavier weight yarn...you seem to have it down. (Course take that comment w/a pound of salt, I'm not a spinner!)

Definitely - handspun yarn p0rn is great :)

And, that being your fourth attempt, you are going to be a scary-good spinner!! I completely understand the impulse to spin fast - I have yet to figure out how to quell it. ;)

Oh, for sure, I love your handspun, and hope you'll keep showing it. What a wonderful color combination. As you know , green and orange are some of my favorite colors, and this yarn makes me want to pick it up right from the screen. As you, I've only been spinning (yesterday and today). No knitting so far.

are you kidding? i LOVE seeing your handspun yarns, way more than the commercial stuff (although i love that, too). you should shop around in the one skein book for some small projects for these beauties. or maybe make a pillow front in some cool stitch pattern for your house so you could look at them all the time. just a thought.

What Jackie said. Gorgeous yarn, and take a look at the one skein book or the new similar one - i think it's called 101 one-skein wonders. I am sure you will find the perfect project!

beautiful colors!

How about patterns from one of the One Skien books, I think a new one just came out. I have the first one and they do have some good stuff.

I love handmade (spun) stuff. The beauty of handmade is the fact they always take on their own personality - that's the good stuff!! If you want perfect - buy it from a yarn store. I think when you get something made with your hand spun you may have a better higher regard for how nice it really is....Keep it up!

Gorgeous!!! Love love love the colors and how you spun it!! I will love to see your handspun every Friday, and of course, sometimes, if you don't like it and don't want it and want to make it "commercially available" to us blog readers...you know...that's okay too...hehehe (because everything I've seen so far is BEAUTIFUL!!!). Keep up the great work!

I think all the handspun is looking beautiful! Hats and mittens are a great way to use it. But if it is of similar weight you could maybe do a super special afghan?
