Fiber Friday - Zitron Unikat

I'm not sure what this yarn will end up being. Right now it's sitting in a plastic bag in the crap room. (The crap room is what my husband calls it; I prefer craft room or work room.) I really want to knit something up with this yarn to see how it turns out. I love the rich almost velvety look and feel of the colors.

I've been trying to decide if I should go with a scarf and hat type combo outfit, maybe even for the afore mentioned husband. Or maybe he'd like a pair of those felted clogs to wear around the house this winter. The colors seem manly enough I suppose.

I've also though about knitting him some mittens. He 's the one that walks the dog the most. In the winter time, he bundles up like we live in Minnesota when he goes out with the dog - so maybe he'd like some mittens. When my mom visited recently she had a pair of thrummed mittens with her that she knit and he was impressed with those. I could try that with this yarn; I'd just need a little fiber.

I've got four skeins of this yarn; that ends up being about 700 yards of a heavy worsted weight yarn. So I've got enough for a nice sized project or a couple of small ones. I'm leaning to the scarf and hat combo mainly because I can use it if he decides not to wear it. But I suppose the first thing I need to do is ask him if he even likes the colors. Cause if he doesn't; I'll make something for myself.

I swear, every husband I know calls it a "crap" room. Hrumpfff! Maybe we should think up a name for their workshops. I do love the Unikat. I've seem it before but never knit with it. Hope you have a good weekend.

Mine doesn't, but that's because I've strategigly placed all my stuff around the house! ;o) Another wonderful yarn. I'm very intersted in how it looks all knitted up. I hope he likes it, it's so much fun to knit something for somebody else.

Those do look like nice man colors, but you never know with males. Weird creatures they are.

Lovely yarn!

That's gorgeous! So pretty and soft looking. I'd be hard pressed to figure out a project for it too.

FYI: I made my husband a super-long garter stitch scarf out of that very colorway and he loves it. Just cast on something like a couple hundred sts and then put some fringe on it and it will rule!

It seems like it would be a shame to felt it, it has such a pretty texture on the skein. A scarf and hat would be lovely, and then you both could share in the enjoyment!

Mittens would be so lovely!

Double yum!! Truly drooly. :-)

I wouldn't felt it. The colours won't come through the same.

this Unikat is really beautiful. Have you seen on Bloglines? the image is huge and really shows off the yarn. Can't wait to knit mine up!

Mittens would be great although I'd be happy just petting it.

Boy those colors are great! It would be nice to knit with those colors in the fall/winter months. They certainly feel like autumn.
Check with the hubby on the color and if there is any doubt grab it for yourself. Another "can't wait to see" project....

Ooooh, I bet it would make a gorgeous My So-Called Scarf. And somewhere, there's a matching hat pattern to go with it. Try googling, and if you can't find it, I'll look around and see if I have it bookmarked.

Yummy Yarn! I vote for the thrummed mittens (that could be because I've been thinking about making some myself recently).

Gorgeous Yarn. I love the color. I have some Unikat that I've been swatching for the Einstein coat. I've seen it knit up in one--it's actually very nice in simple garter stitch. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
